Why Reigious Paintings

The purpose of religious paintings are to tell story. Through paintings, a religious event described an event in history books such as the bible or other holy books.

Someone said “The concept of painting is similar to that of dreaming where God uses different symbols to convey a particular message or instruction.”

It comes down to a means of communication between two or more individuals that tells a story… although,
sometimes misinterpreted and meaning different things yo different people.

Several individuals can sometimes see several themes in a single piece of painting. For example, A painting of Mary holding baby
Jesus, may lead the viewer through entire story of Mary.

Two of the other popular paintings: 1. God the Father and The creation of Adam painted by Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel 2. The Last Supper painted by Artist: Leonardo da Vinci are often times misinterpreted, despite the fact that these are exceptional religious paintings .

A painter interpretations however, especially the intentions of religious painters, remain the same. In other words religious paintings serve as a means of communication by telling of a religious story.

History of Religious Paintings Many years ago Religious paintings were usually hung on the walls of churches and can be traced back to before the 1st centuries. In fact some of early paintings found in caves can be conceive as a form of deity. Around 5th BC, the Egyptians painted pictures of Joseph, who was sold into slavery by his brothers, and rose to become vizier, the second most powerful man in Egypt next to Pharaoh, Pharaoh gave him the name "Zaphnath-Paaneah”. These were just some of the scenes described the Old Testaments. About the time of the New Testament or after Jesus crucifixion, some individuals would use religious paintings not only to decorate their homes but to remind of their meditation obligation or remind them of that moral message that they should consider should be told. Since that day forward, painters and sculptures used images to convey a messages either with clay, stone or brass or by painting on canvas or even paper. Some say the religious paintings began to inspire the spirit in the Buddhist and Islamic religions which also were used for meditation purposes. Whatever the purpose, however, religious paintings are generally used to explain the message about religion that is being put forth by the painter.    They do not always depict stories and personalities that are found in the holy books, but they also depict the lifestyle of different religious groups like Muslims worshiping at the mosque and/or Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox weddings.     Religious Art through the ages has been a powerful instrument in History allowing all to study about history of life and why are we here.

The Lord's Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever.

Amen.

What is Lent?

When we think of Lent we think of Easter. Lent begins the Easter season.

Lent start 40 days before Easter. To be exact, Easter is April 17th 2023. Easter is a season of hope and celebration. Traditionally, Lent is also the time for prayer and fasting. But for others, not so much.

It begins on the first Wednesday commonly called “Ash Wednesday”. For many, it begins with a good confession and some repentance.

Many Christians, or the followers of Jesus, would often fast with sackcloth and ashes, or do or not do something. But today, It means given up something special, such as your favorite food, or maybe your favorite TV show or some other activity.

Each  “penance ” serves as a reminder that Jesus died for us by the way of the cross. One might think of it as Atonement for past bad conduct. While others think of it as a goal, to give up something or to provide payment for what to come .

Maybe I could help the neighbor. Buy a coffee for the homeless and yes, say an extra prayer for that person that may have harm you in the past … It’s that the time ..lets pray
